High school students get a taste of the limitless possibilities of technology at Shaking up Tech event.

On 10 October 2019, Aalto University, LUT University and University of Tampere will host a coordinated Shaking Up Tech event, which aims to inspire young women to study technology after high school.

The technology field offers many opportunities to have an impact on the world.

Health technology, space science…
…sustainable development, mobile application design, management roles in the business world! Students graduate from Universities with dozens of different areas of specialisation. Technology professionals create the products and services of the future.

The future is in the hands of us all; expertise or opportunities do not depend on gender!

Through the Shaking up Tech event, Aalto University, LUT-University and University of Tampere want to offer young women – soon facing study and career choices – a new understanding of technology.

The goal is further to indicate that young women have more than enough expertise and skills to study technology. The partners of the event include a range of businesses that share the same goal. Technology is the field of the future and there is already competition in the labour markets for competent women.

The event encompasses speeches given by alumni and professors. The event also offers a selection of concrete workshop options and then concludes in the evening with a study fair.

“The world would be heading in a much better direction if everyone would be as open, curious and enthusiastic as the girls taking part in my workshop. It felt like they taught me more than I was able to teach them.” said Linda Liukas last year. She is a children’s author, illustrator, and active promoter of coding.

We want to inspire and encourage young women to enter the field of technology.

We are going to shake the prejudices towards the technology.

We see a future where as many women as men work in technology.
